You’ve been thinking about joining an online dating service, you’re a little freaked out about putting your online dating profile online. But you’re tired of being single, so you start digging around and asking your friends which sites they’re on.
You’ve decided to take the icy plunge into online dating, I think it’s time to pop the bubbly for the road ahead. Now it’s time to make your profile. This can seem like a difficult task if you’re new to online dating, but after reading this article you won’t find it too hard. In fact, you’ll find the whole process is a blast!
There are key points you must remember.
- Don’t be a Pinocchio
It might be tempting to lie a little, but, that never turns out well and a little white lie goes a long way. Just think how you’d react if you found out your date was 80 pounds heavier and 10 years older (or younger) than they said.
If you make your profile the right way, and are serious about this dating business you will have some dates very soon. You want to find a date that likes you for who you are, not who they think you are.
- Be clear what you’re looking for.
Are you looking for someone that doesn’t smoke cigarettes, don’t pretend a pack a day is OK if the thought of cigarettes brings up bad memories of being a little kid trapped in the backseat of your mom’s car when she was smoking.
Some people may think having preferences makes them sound too picky. Settling for something less than you want won’t do you or the other person any good. Knowing what you want is the only way to ensure that you actually find the kind of person you’re looking for.
Having preferences, which often come from past relationships, will help you attract and meet the kind of partner you actually like to spend time with.
- Get out the camera.
Add at least one picture minimum, and more is better. Men generally have about 4 photos, and a good number of pics for women is 6. You don’t have to go overboard and in your super fancy clothes, but look your best and rock what you’ve got!
The purpose of pictures is for people to see what you look like. According to eHarmony Online profiles with pictures get 9x more action than those with no photos. Don’t hide yourself with a tight cropped shot either.
Have at least one full body shot and a close-up and it’s a great idea to have a headshot as your main photo. You want potential dates to see what you look like so be yourself, and have fun with your photos.
- Talk about your passions.
If you love skiing talk about how it makes you feel and where you like to go. If you want to have a snowy fun experiences with your partner. Paint a picture in their mind of what it will be like when you are cruising down the powder together.
You will never happy if a bunch of couch potatoes respond to your profile and you are an adrenaline junkie. You can talk about what you do like. Don’t focus on what you don’t like. You can talk about your favorite kinds of foods, music, hobbies and be descriptive. It’s best way to find someone with similar tastes as you.
- Be upfront with what you’re looking for.
Are you looking for marriage? Maybe you’re just looking for a Saturday night dance partner. You need to describe the type of relationship you’re looking for and be real about it.
There are people who are seeking short and long-term relationships. It’s pointless for someone to respond to your ad that’s not looking for the same type of relationship as you are.
The most important thing with online dating is to have fun, you are in a new beginning, make it EPIC. Making your online profile isn’t a chore, it is a new experience. Look at it as an adventure into getting to know yourself and exactly what it is you are looking for.
Keep it fun and enjoy the entire process. It’s the best way to ensure that you’re going to find exactly the right person for you. If you need help with your pictures to attract the right kind of men online check out my book for women here and make your photos stand out from the crowd…
