There are more ways than one that makes getting over your ex-boyfriend so much easier.

Stalking your ex on Instagram, hooking up with any man you can get your hands on, or drinking too much may make you feel better for a minute, but it won’t last.

These are the new ways to get over your ex gracefully.

Let yourself feel sad… but please not forever.

Having a breakup “flu” can help you get it all out faster. Let yourself watch sad movies, have a few primal screams, and get on your knees and cry if you’ve got to. Give yourself some time to wallow in sorrow, but don’t do it for too long.

You dump him back.

You don’t need to be reminded of how cute he is, or see pictures of his lunch on Facebook. Now is not the time to “be friends,” because you need to take care of you first.

Seeing him on social media will keep the painful feelings coming up. So go cold turkey and give yourself a break from anything to do with him.

Get rid of his stuff.

Still, have his toothbrush and cologne at your place? Dump it, donate it or give it to a friend, (well, not his toothbrush of course). Reminders of him in your bathroom will only make you think of him more often, and this isn’t what you need right now.

You need his things gone from your space.

Get out all the sadness.

Don’t torture your friends for years, (like I once did), but do find support now. Let your sadness or anger come out with someone you feel safe talking with about your feelings.

It can be a therapist, life coach, best friend, a spiritual advisor or even a breakup forum online. It is OK to feel mad, hurt, confused, or any of those icky feelings that may come up.

Whatever works best for you. Don’t stuff it all down.

Buy some fake plants.

When I was married, I found the most beautiful plastic flowers. I love them, and my ex-despised them. He banned them from our living space. So you can bet one of the first things I did when I got my new apartment after my divorce, was buy fake flowers.

If you boyfriend hated Indian food, it’s time for some chicken korma. Did he think your show habit was ridiculous? It sounds to me like it’s time for some new shoes. Do something that he wasn’t into, but you are, and you let that part of you go when you were with him.

Get a makeover.

Go to the salon, get shampooed, highlights, a cut, and a beach blowout. It will not only make you look like a goddess, getting pampered will boost your oxytocin, (a feel-good hormone) and therefore boost your mood.

Plus you will get the bonus of feeling even more sexy than usual.

Get some new sheets.

If your boyfriend slept in your bed, getting new linens will freshen up the vibe in your room. His lingering smell and the same sheets will remind you of passionate past days. So donate them or pass them to a friend. You won’t be sorry.

It will feel like you gave your entire room a makeover for just a few dollars.

Get sweaty.

Hit the gym or do some yoga in your bedroom. Something, even more, fun and cheap, is to watch some belly dancing tutorials on youtube.

The circular movement of your hips will get you feeling sensual, and not like a kitten who was dropped off on the side of the road.

Bellydancing is so going for some to get into their feminine-goddess self.

It’s pamper time.

According to science, your brain can’t tell the difference between physical and emotional pain. So give your body some physical pleasure.

Make a sugar scrub with olive oil, sugar, and some vanilla extract or essential oils and your skin will be moisturized and glow like the morning sun.

The easy body scrub recipe also makes a great lip scrub. You can also add peppermint oil instead which is known to plump your lips as well, and it tastes great! But peppermint can be spicy so watch out where you put it.

Taking care of yourself will make you feel better. Pamper yourself every day if you can and watch this video.

Do origami.

Have you dreamed of going to Italy someday? Do yourself a favor and learn something new. It sounds like the perfect time to start learning some conversational Italian.

Try origami, or scrapbooking or writing a short story. Challenging yourself will give you something else to think about besides your ex-boyfriend. Learning something new will boost your self-esteem.
